FAQs

Does my bike need remapping?

No. However, due to worldwide regulatory requirements, manufacturers have to adhere to certain parameters. We try to make the bikes as intended on the blueprints. Most bikes are really good, but the manufacturer has to throw a dart on the wall and hope to hit the target for every market.

What can I expect from remapping?

You can expect torque gains in the critical RPM riding areas, making it easier to ride.

Can I remap a new brand bike?

Yes. Remapping will give you the best benefit with a fresh engine. Our remapping is very safe and helps extend the life of the engine.

Can I map a used bike? Or a bike that has been ridden for several hours?

Don’t assume anything. You never know what the true history of the motorcycle was. We always recommend to do a compression test on 2 stroke and a leak down test on 4 stroke. Feel free to contact us to discuss the details on individual cases.

Do I need a high compression head?

No, unless riding at extreme elevation. An engine needs room to breath or can even make excessive heat with too much compression. People that ride at sea level really should be careful.

Do I need to make other modifications?

Depends on the bike to get the maximum potential. Most of our recommended modifications cost only nickels and dimes compared to other competitors. We believe that when you pay over $10,000 for a motorcycle, it should have good components that only need tweaking.

Do I need to put a new spark plug?

Yes, it is highly recommended.

Do I need a special spark plug?

No, a standard spark plug is fine.

Can I run a spark arrestor?

Spark arrestors can be problematic.

Can I run different color power valve springs?

Yes.

Should I put a new spark plug in when I receive my ECU back?

YES. YES and YES !

What if my bike doesn’t run correctly after having the ECU mapped?

Believe or not, many bikes have a problem before mapping (yes! even brand new bikes or bikes with low hours). You should not assume mapping will fix the problem. Sometimes it may but a lot of times, there may be other issues. We have included a troubleshooting section that we recommend you try before calling.

What 2stroke oil should I use?

Typically, use what the manufacturer recommends. Below is a list of commonly available 2stroke oils and their flash points.

What 2 stroke oil does TPI Tuning normally test with?

  • Motul 800 2T

  • Maxima K2

  • Motorex 2T for oil injection

  • Motul 710 for oil injection

What ratios do we test with?

Everything we do is at 40:1 for 250 and larger CC displacement. We test at 32:1 for all 150 CC and below.. Again, whatever you like to run will not adversely effect mapping for the average consumer on a stock engine.

Why map a 4 stroke?

Better throttle response. Less flameouts. Better overrev. Lower cost than after market ECUs, with better performance.

How do I remove my ECU?

Watch this video for step-by-step instructions on how to remove your dirt bike’s Engine Control Unit so you can safely ship it to us for mapping.

How do I ship my ECU to you?

Please ensure that your ECU is well protected by wrapping it in bubble wrap and shipping it inside a sturdy box. Do not ship in a soft, bubble or padded mailer envelope. We are not responsible for damage to your ECU during shipping if it has not been properly packaged/protected. Insure your package for at least $400. We prefer UPS and USPS shipping.
